Where to apply CROWN: temples, behind the ears, back of the neck, shoulders

How to use

Where people apply it

Roll one thin pass onto clean, dry skin. CROWN is concentrated and spreads, so a little goes a long way. These are the usual spots:

  1. Temples. A short stroke on each side, well away from the eyes.
  2. Behind the ears. Along the bone just behind each ear.
  3. Back of the neck. Across the base of the skull and down the neck.
  4. Shoulders. Along the tops, where tension tends to sit.
Keep it away fromEyes, the inside of the nose and mouth, and broken or irritated skin. Wash your hands after applying.

Use up to 3 to 4 times a day. New to cooling rollers? Try a small spot first. For external use only.

Most migraine rollers hide behind lavender

Lavender is a scent many people with migraine say they avoid, and almost every other roller leans on it. Ours doesn't.

We paired menthol and camphor, the classic cooling and counterirritant actives, with Bing Pian (an icy cooling compound) and Chuan Xiong (a staple herb of traditional Chinese formulas). Then we added magnesium, the mineral you've heard about for years. Disclosed concentrations, lab tested, made in a cGMP facility.

What's inside

Menthol: the source of the fast, fresh cooling sensation.

Magnesium: a mineral that comes up often in migraine research.

Bing Pian (Borneol): a cooling compound used in Chinese headache formulas for centuries. Its name literally means "ice piece."

Chuan Xiong: the most-used herb in traditional Chinese headache formulas. Modern pharmacology has mapped its vasoactive compounds.

Camphor: a topical counterirritant recognized in the FDA OTC analgesic monograph, at a disclosed 3%.

Peppermint and eucalyptus: complementary cooling actives.

German chamomile and sweet basil: botanicals that have each been studied in published topical research.

No lavender. On purpose.

Plenty of scent-sensitive people avoid it, so we left it out. No synthetic fragrance, no parabens, no artificial colorants, no filler.

CROWN by Cerebral Torque FAQ

What is CROWN?

CROWN is a cooling roll-on made by Cerebral Torque, an evidence-based migraine education platform. It pairs menthol and camphor, the classic Western cooling and counterirritant actives, with two ingredients from traditional Chinese formulas, Bing Pian (borneol) and Chuan Xiong, plus magnesium. It's lavender-free and has no synthetic fragrance, so it's a good fit for people who are sensitive to scent.

What makes CROWN different from other migraine rollers?

Three things. First, it draws on two traditions. Most rollers stop at peppermint and a few essential oils. CROWN adds Bing Pian and Chuan Xiong, two ingredients with a long history in traditional Chinese formulas and a growing body of published research. Second, CROWN is lavender-free. Lavender is a common scent people with migraine say they avoid, and most other rollers in the category contain it. Third, CROWN discloses every active concentration. Most rollers keep them hidden.

What's actually inside CROWN?

Every active in CROWN is disclosed at its concentration on our website. Here is the full lineup:

  • Menthol: the classic cooling active, and the source of that fast, fresh chill.
  • Magnesium: a mineral that comes up often in migraine research.
  • Bing Pian (borneol): an icy cooling compound used in Chinese headache formulas for centuries. Its name literally means "ice piece."
  • Chuan Xiong: the most-used herb in traditional Chinese headache formulas, rich in tetramethylpyrazine.
  • Camphor: a topical counterirritant recognized in the FDA OTC analgesic monograph, disclosed at 3%.
  • Peppermint and eucalyptus: complementary cooling actives.
  • German chamomile and sweet basil: botanicals that have each been studied in published topical research.

No lavender. No synthetic fragrance. No parabens. No filler.

What does the research say about CROWN's ingredients?

Each key ingredient in CROWN has a published research record. These studies looked at the individual ingredients, not at CROWN itself, and several tested different forms or doses. Here they are, by ingredient:

Who is CROWN for?

Anyone who likes a strong cooling sensation on the temples, neck, and shoulders, especially people who are sensitive to scent. If you've tried rollers before and found the lavender or perfume too much, CROWN was made with you in mind.

What does CROWN actually feel like when I roll it on?

Cooling, fast. You'll feel a crisp, tingly chill within seconds, strong but not unpleasant. CROWN sits at the higher end of cooling intensity by design. Think of a clean cool that spreads from the temples back toward the neck.

Why no lavender?

Many people with migraine say strong smells bother them, and studies on osmophobia (odor sensitivity in migraine) often list floral and perfume scents among the smells people avoid. So we left lavender out, along with synthetic fragrance. CROWN is lavender-free for scent-sensitive users.

Can I use it with my medication?

CROWN is a topical product that you roll onto your skin. It isn't a medicine and doesn't replace anything your clinician has prescribed. If you take any medication, ask your clinician or pharmacist before adding CROWN to your routine, and bring the ingredient list with you.

Is it safe in pregnancy?

Please talk to your clinician first. Several of the essential oils in CROWN, including peppermint, eucalyptus, and camphor, are often flagged for caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding because the safety data is limited. CROWN is also not recommended for children under 2.

How often can I use CROWN?

Up to 3 to 4 times daily. Roll a thin pass onto the temples, behind the ears, the back of the neck, or the shoulders whenever you want that cooling feeling. Avoid your eyes, mucous membranes, and broken skin. If your skin gets irritated, stop using it.

How long does a bottle last?

A 10 mL bottle holds roughly 60 to 80 applications, depending on how generously you use it. If you use CROWN a few times a week, one bottle usually lasts 1 to 2 months. Daily users may go through a bottle in 3 to 4 weeks.

Can I take CROWN on a plane?

Yes. The 10 mL size is well under TSA's 100mL liquid limit for carry-on. The bottle is designed to be travel-friendly and fits in a standard quart bag.

Does CROWN contain CBD or THC?

No. CROWN contains no cannabinoids.

Where is CROWN manufactured?

CROWN is manufactured at an ISO 9001 certified, FDA-registered facility. Each batch is tested for purity and potency. The formula was developed by Cerebral Torque, a migraine education platform.
