Most migraine rollers hide behind lavender

Lavender is one of the most common scent triggers for migraine, and almost every other roller leans on it. Ours doesn't.

We paired menthol, the cooling active most studied for headache pain, with Bing Pian (an icy cooling compound) and Chuan Xiong (the headache herb of Chinese medicine). Then we added magnesium, the mineral you've heard about for years. Disclosed concentrations, lab tested, made in a cGMP facility.

    What's inside

Menthol: the cooling sensation, and the active in the formulations studied for headache relief.

Magnesium: the mineral most associated with migraine support.

Bing Pian (Borneol): a cooling compound used in Chinese headache formulas for centuries. Its name literally means "ice piece."

Chuan Xiong: the most-used herb in traditional Chinese headache formulas. Modern pharmacology has mapped its vasoactive compounds.

Peppermint, eucalyptus and camphor: complementary cooling and counterirritant actives.

German chamomile and sweet basil: each with peer-reviewed RCT evidence in topical migraine formulations.

    No lavender. On purpose.

It's one of the most common scent triggers for migraine, so we left it out. No synthetic fragrance, no parabens, no artificial colorants, no filler.

Crown by Cerebral Torque FAQ

What is Crown?

Crown is a cooling roll-on for headaches and tension, built specifically for people with migraine. It's the first migraine roller to bring together the most studied Western cooling active (menthol) with two ingredients used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine: Bing Pian (borneol) and Chuan Xiong. Plus magnesium, the mineral most associated with migraine support. Crown is made by Cerebral Torque, an evidence-based migraine education platform, and it's designed to be safe to use during an attack, not just before one.

What makes Crown different from other migraine rollers?

Three things. First, Crown is built on evidence from two traditions. Most rollers stop at peppermint and a few essential oils. Crown adds Bing Pian and Chuan Xiong, two TCM actives with peer-reviewed clinical evidence for topical pain relief. Second, Crown is lavender-free. Lavender is one of the most common migraine scent triggers, and almost every other roller in the category contains it. Third, Crown discloses every active concentration. Most rollers keep them hidden.

What's actually inside Crown, and what does each one do?

Every active in Crown is listed on the carton at a disclosed concentration. Here is the full lineup:

  • Menthol — the cooling active most studied for headache pain.
  • Magnesium — the mineral most associated with migraine support.
  • Bing Pian (borneol) — an icy cooling compound used in Chinese headache formulas for centuries. Its name literally means "ice piece."
  • Chuan Xiong — the most-used herb in traditional Chinese headache formulas, rich in tetramethylpyrazine.
  • Peppermint, eucalyptus, and camphor — complementary cooling and counterirritant actives.
  • German chamomile and sweet basil — each with its own randomized controlled trial in topical migraine relief.

No lavender. No synthetic fragrance. No parabens. No filler.

Is Crown actually backed by research?

Yes. Every key active in Crown has peer-reviewed evidence behind it. The studies, by ingredient:

Who is Crown for?

Anyone who experiences migraines, tension headaches, or general head and neck tightness. It's especially designed for people with migraine who have learned the hard way that floral scents like lavender can deepen an attack rather than ease it. If you've used migraine rollers before and found the lavender made things worse, Crown is for you.

What does Crown actually feel like when I roll it on?

Cooling, fast. The active ingredients work within seconds and the sensation is strong but not unpleasant. Crown sits at the higher end of cooling intensity by design, since the clinical literature on topical menthol and borneol shows benefit at the concentrations that produce a real sensation, not at trace levels. Most users describe it as a clean cool spreading from the temples backward through the neck.

Why no lavender?

Lavender is one of the most common scent triggers for migraine. Studies on osmophobia (odor sensitivity in migraine) consistently show floral and perfume-based smells among the top triggers. For a roller marketed to migraine patients, including lavender by default ignores a meaningful piece of the literature. We left it out so Crown is safe to use during an attack.

Can I use Crown alongside my migraine medication?

Crown is a topical aromatherapy product applied to the skin. It's not absorbed systemically in any meaningful amount and isn't expected to interact with oral medications, triptans, gepants, CGRP antibodies, or preventive medications. That said, we always recommend checking with your prescribing physician about any product you add to your routine.

Is Crown safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Several of the essential oils in Crown, including peppermint, eucalyptus, and camphor, are commonly cautioned against during pregnancy due to limited safety data in this population. We recommend consulting your obstetrician or healthcare provider before using Crown if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Crown is also not recommended for use on children under 2 years of age.

How often can I use Crown?

Up to 3 to 4 times daily as needed. Apply to the temples, forehead, and the back of your neck at the first sign of a headache. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If you experience skin irritation, discontinue use.

How long does one bottle last?

A 10 mL bottle contains roughly 60 to 80 applications depending on how generously you use it. For someone using Crown a few times a week during typical migraine episodes, one bottle typically lasts 1 to 2 months. People with chronic migraine using it daily may go through a bottle in 3 to 4 weeks.

Can I take Crown on a plane?

Yes. The 10 mL size is well under TSA's 100mL liquid limit for carry-on. The bottle is designed to be travel-friendly and fits in a standard quart bag.

Does Crown contain CBD or THC?

No. Crown contains no cannabinoids. (If you're looking for migraine support that includes CBN, that's our other product, Cerebral Tranquility.)

Where is Crown manufactured?

Crown is manufactured at an ISO 9001 certified, FDA-registered facility. Each batch is tested for purity and potency. The formula was developed by Cerebral Torque, a migraine education platform.
